Police vs BOS

Northallerton Police travelled to Brompton on Swale in this Division 1 fixture knowing that a win would put them on the way to retaining the first division championship providing it was confirmed that Thirsk Albion have resigned from the league.

Police started well and after 2mins Richard Sykes broke down the left and passed inside to Sam Vernalls who shot over the bar from 10yds.

Play was end to end and after 10mins Lee Wasden shot over the bar from 15yds. Police hit back and Ian Rayner volleyed wide from 15 yds. After 14mins a fine passing move between Chris Maclean and Vernalls ended with Sykes 15yd shot being well saved by the Brompton keeper.

Police hit back and a Ben Barr shot from 10yds was well saved by the keeper. Police broke the deadlock after 38mins when Chris Walker headed clear a Brompton corner which fell to Vernalls who played the ball out on the left to Barr who beat his man and crossed into the area where Vernalls tucked the ball into the far corner of the net from 10yds.

A minute later he could have made it two but shot over when well placed. The second half began with Brompton putting on the pressure but the Police defence held up well with Nathan Jackman, Neil Foster, Walker and Maclean in fine form.

The pace was not a fast as the first half because of the hot day and neither side created as many chances.

The all important 2nd goal for the Police came after 78mins when Ben Barr beat his man on the right wing and crossed for Simon Caukwell to score with a fine diving header at the far post from 8 yds.

Police had a chance to make it 3-0 but Curt Tasker shot over the bar from 25yds.

Lee Wasden took the man of the match award for Brompton with Sam Vernalls claiming the award for the Police.
