Police vs Ossy Northallerton Police entertained Osmotherley Rangers in this first division league match at Newby Wiske on Thursday evening. Police started off at a great pace and in the first minute Richard Sykes and Sam Vernalls combined to set up Ben Barr who hit the bar (no pun intended) from 8 yds. Police took the lead after 7mins when Vernalls and Neil foster combined on the left and crossed the ball for Jonny Coombs to score from 6 yds. Two mins later Ben Barr set up Vernalls who made no mistake from 8 yds. Osmotherley came more into the game but were unable to create any clear cut chances. Police increased their lead after 61 mins with the goal of the game. Ian Rayner started the move on the edge of his own penalty area passing the ball out to Craig Johns down the right who passed onto Ben Barr who passed on to Vernalls who crossed into the area where Jonny Coombs slotted the ball home from 6yds at the far post. Ossy hit back and police keeper Kirk Fletcher tipped a 20yard drive from Alan Clarke over the bar. Two mins later he produced the save of the match Harrison Davies crossed from the left for Jamie May to head towards goal from point blank range only for Fletcher to spread himself and deflect the ball for defender Neil Foster to clear the Police lines. Ossy pressed hard for a goal but the police defence held firm with Chris Walker and Simon Caukwell in fine form. Lee Cort took the man of the match award for Ossy with Kirk Fletcher taking the award for the Police. |
