Dale vs Police

Northallerton Police travelled to Kildale City to take on Kildale in this top of the table clash. Kildale being top by four points and Police second but with four games in hand.

Kildale won the toss and elected to kick downhill against the very strong gusting wind.

Police nearly scored from the kick off when the ball was passed to Sam Vernalls whose shot from his own half was only just tipped over his bar by Kildale keeper Paul Clemmit. Police pressed forward and forced a number of corners putting the Kildale defence under pressure.

After 13mins Police captain Mark Chisholm was just wide with a 25yard free kick. Ian Rayner shot wide after 33mins with another free kick from 20yards. Kildale were having quite a lot of possession but were unable to create any clear cut chances.

After 42mins Neil Duffy hit a fine 20yard shot which Clemmit palmed for a corner. Police started the second half in determined mood with Duffy putting in some strong challenges. They played some good football with Rayner taking control in midfield and Police making good use of the wings.

After 65mins a Neil Foster pass found Vernalls whose 18 yard shot was saved by Clemmit.

After 71mins a pass by Simon Caukwell also found Vernalls who beat two men before shooting from 16yards only for Clemmit to save at the second attempt.

Police scored the winner with 7 mins to go when Vernalls took a pass from Duffy to the right of goal. He turned his defender and crashed a rising right foot cross shot into the top left hand corner of the net from 15yards.

Kildale hit back and only a fine block tackle by defender Chris Walker prevented Steven Pennock from equalising.

Keeper Paul Clemmit took the man of the match award for Kildale with Mark Chisholm taking it for the Police.
