Jefferson Cup Week 1 Round-up

Stokesley Saturday and Great Dale kicked off the 2005 Jefferson Cup on Monday. Tricky Dicky Kanu caused Stowsley too many problems and his brace along with goals from Paul Bone and Spunky gave Great Dale a 4-0 half time scoreline. Stowesley put in a much better second half performance matching great dale with no further goals added.

It was the turn of Stowesley Sunday team on Tuesday with Neil Fawcett's men fired up after numerous friendlies and pre-season training sessions. After a close opening 20 minutes, the extra fitness and organisation took effect as stokesley went on to a very comfortable 9-0 win with 4 goals from Craig Hutton, 3 from Andy Porritt and 2 from Scouse (John Dowd).

The Hibs entered the fray on Thursday against Great Dale knowing that a defeat would see the opposition through to the final. Gt. Dale had all the big guns in the opening line-up and although enjoying the majority of the possession any advances were soon snubbed out by the hibs rear guard of Mushy, Hanks, Scarecrow and Lard.

The deadlock was broken when a deflected dodsie shot from the edge of the area just beat mushy and sneaked into the net. It wasn't long before the hibs were level when clem couldn't hold onto a stoz freekick and Leo Sayer was on hand to side foot the ball into the net. 1-1 H.T.

With the scores level the shirt left his big guns on the park hoping for an improved second half performance, but things looked to of back fired when a fine run from stoz along with a cool finish put the hibs 2-1. The Hibs looked comfortable at 2-1 until a cross from the right was met by boney and mushy will be disappointed not to of held only the resulting shot from 12 yards.

Tricky Dicky then weaved a little magic and along with a helpful ricochet or two put gt. dale 3-2 in front. This was short lived as stoz soon pulled the scores back level at 3's a piece. With 5 minutes to go spunky drove the ball into the hibs box from the bye line and the ball cannoned off wayne and flew into the top corner to make the score 4-3 and take Great Dale into the final on Sunday.
