Snapometer
2003/4
| Topcliffe (The Angel) - Friendly |
9 - What a transformation, and
has certainly set the pace for this season. Large quantites of
chicken drumstick pork pieces and roasties. All the necessary
accompliments, the only thing missing was the oomlaters |
| Black Bull (Unison) |
7.5 - A good start sausage chips
and finger buns, served along with some tidy oomlatters. A decent
quantity was soon reduced when shared with the Unison boys, more
chips arrived and the quantity was ample. Sachets available, no
plates or napkins. The fine service lifted the mark to 7.5. |
| Dudley Arms (The Dale) |
A good supply of sangers and high
quality jockies whips, served with fine oomies. 7.5 was pushed up
to 8.0 when a garlic dip arrived. It was noted that this wasn't
the same feast served when Ingleby are at home!!! |
| Dalesman Club (Skipton BS) |
A hearty self serving of
shepherds pie, yorkshire puds and gravy. Fine snap indeed, let
down by a shortage of plates and the home team snaffling most of
the gravy. Club priced beer means a respectable mark of 8.5. |
| Kings Head ? (BOS) |
A nice little boozer, Guinness on
tap, Oomies on show. Simple snap of a selection of sangers and a
few jockies. 7.5. |
| The Dudley (Ingleby) |
9.9 - Once again top snap. Credit
has to go to Ginger not for his culinary delights, but for his
selection criteria of his bar staff (surely the leagues leading bar ladies)!! |
| Cross Keys (Thirsk A) |
9 - Fine snap indeed, only let
done by the lack of oomies. Pre-salted crinkled cut chips (cooked
to perfection), buttered bread buns and chicken curry. Vinegar,
plates, knife & forks and napkins - good effort. |
2002/3
Mark out of 10 for the Snap
provided by various pubs which the teams go back to (The Jets a baseline
of 7):-
| Durham Ox |
8 - Chips, Sausage, beans and
bread, a few too many beans though (journey back could be frought
with danger!!) |
| Topcliffe (The Angel) |
6 - a few chips and sandwiches,
good job some people had to shoot straight back. |
| Gilling West (The Angel) |
9 - Burger, Bun with Onions and
lots of chips (brown and red sauce, salt and vinegar provided
along with plates and napkins - bonus 1 point) |
| Marne Dragons FC (Fleece -
Richmond) |
Not a good start, sold out of
Guinness (minus 2 pts). More than friendly barlady with big
oomlatters (plus 2pts)!! Choice of pies (chicken, Chicken &
sweetcorn or steak), pucker chips with gravy but no tom sauce.
Pies tepid temperature knocked off 0.5 pts, extra chips plus
0.5pts.
Overall 8.5 |
| Catterick Village (The Angel) |
Sausage & Chips, no tom or
brown sauce, vinegar, needed to track down the salt which was
being hogged by the home side.
Quick efficient service, paper plates,
napkins and knives and forks
Overall 7.5 |
| Nags Napper |
Early promise of the sight of
chips, sausages, sandwiches and onion rings, was quickly marked
down by the poor slap dash service. All the food was given to the
home team, leaving the victorious Hibs to fight for a share of the
spoils. No paper plates to carry the food back to our Guinness
left the more experienced and creative to use a slice of bread.
The late arrival of napkins and the non existent tom sauce, leaves
us with no choice to award an lower snapometer rating than the
jets
Overall 6.5 |
| Yorkshire Herald (Dringhouses
Sports Club) |
Chips, Sausage and well buttered
bread, basic but straight to the point. Very efficient services by
husband and wife combo Maurice and Maureen, didn't allow for the
sly addition of the extra sausage. Limited paper plate size only
for a dozen growies and a couple of snags. Once again experience
and a steady hand was required to return back without any causalities.
Sadly The Hore was less than a pro with his handling and was only
allowed his snap when Maureen wilted and give him sloppy
seconds!!! Full condiments, napkins/plastics cutlery and a
prompt clean up service by family member Malcolm got them an extra
0.5pt
Overall 8 |
| Ossy Rangers (Queen Catherine) |
A plate of excellent sandwiches
followed by some fine growies. A second helping of growies were
shared between the two teams. Salt and Vinegar provided. Although
a high quality of snap, the limited quantity restricted the score
to 7. |
| Ingleby Greenhow (Dudly Arms) |
Well what can we say; to wet our appetites
Frisbee sized crinkled crisps with mushed up green stuff and piccalilli,
next up the age old favorite toad in the hole with onion gravy and
finally to cap the lot - the culinary delights ... jockeys
whips and Gingers ruby murray. Sore Finger, serving bowls,
serviettes and metal knifes and forks. Then just as it looked as
things couldn't get any better, Martin 'these grapes are bitter'
Sonley, brought out a second and third tureen of GRM.
Us at The Hibs are reluctant to offer the
perfect 10, so 9.5 was the cry. Then what do you know a slender
barmaid appears with rather large
oomlatters .... a perfect 10.
Whilst writing this Snapometer I notice a
tendency to lean to the right and release an minute pocket of gas
(with an interesting aroma) which I'm having certain complaints
about!!! I can only put this down to too much GRM. So in the interest of my fellow drinking
partners and to keep the proprietors of the yal houses on their toes
.......
Overall 9.75 - the best of the season .... so far!!! |
| Elders (Northallerton) |
Saw Hedges, jockies whips and a
calculated amount of buttered bread. Various Sachets of compliments.
No knife and forks or serviettes and only the one helping. No tidy
barman with the appropriate sized oomlatters. As we left I noticed
that Elders hadn't finished their allotment of sausages and
thought they could of been past over to the victors. Bearing in
mind the base line of 7 from The Jets we could only offer a
generous mark of 6.5 for this weeks snap. |
| Skipton BS (Kings Head or Arms?) |
'Food up' was shouted and The
Hibs promptly stood in an orderly line. A slight rearrangement of
the condiments was required before the self service started. Metal
knife and forks, large pucker plates and serviettes
available. A simple combination of Jockies and Beef RM was the
offering. DLF was first up to the pot, as he deeply stirred the RM
which produced more beef on show than spectators for the match.
The RM was a triffle hot and could be used as a Yalometer -
birthday boy Sean refused to take any RM, thus proving he'd had a
couple the night before, Mr Bennison's nose certainly had a few
beads of Yal upon it (well it is big enough!!) and for Georgie we
best say nowt. Anyway back to the Snap, the delightful Doris
brought out some unbuttered bread, then came up trumps when she
offered more chips and RM.
Enough waffling lets cut to the chase,
looking back over previous Snaps it was certainly as good as
Gilling West and those chunks of mad cow pipped it - 9.25 (sorry
Dirk, Tommy K (Tom Sauce to the rest of us) not appropriate on
this occasion).
We thought Pazza's fin had awoken after
years of laying dormant, but as it turns out he wasn't chatting up
Doris, just enquiring about certain hair care products!!! |
| Blue Star |
Difficult
to concentrate on the snap following the escapade with the tea
leaves.
Harty welcome, Good
boozer with a variety beyond compare save the Dudley.
Good hot Jockeys, fish fingers, other breaded assortment with
bangers and
bread and butter. Downside - no Tom , no brown, no salt or plates.
8.5 was the
initial call, but we couldn't decide on the Oomlatters. Size
wasn't a problem,
but Georgie had brought along the delightful potential Mrs Best
and so debate
was stifled.
Noggin and Dirk
pronounced 8.25, and without the DLF's flair for Oomlatter description,
8.25 it was. |
| Streetlam
Farmers |
Some
sangers and a few jockies was looking like the the lowest award of
the season. A second and third small helping of chips pulled the
score up to 6. Limited chip frying facilities was blamed for the
small portions JW, a bigger pan may need to be purchased for next
season, if The Hibs have to travel to Streetlam in the cup. |
